Since 2007, the Tempodrom has actively supported climate protection. Even during construction in 2001, the venue was fitted with various systems geared to energy efficient electricity and heat generation. more
Since autumn 2009 the Tempodrom has also been socially committed, contributing to the fight against child poverty in Germany. As part of a long-term partnership Tempodrom supports the work of the Arche, a Christian charitable organisation in Berlin that helps children and adolescents. more
The Tempodrom wishes to make a personal contribution with its social and ecological commitment, and to both help and provide food for thought - because the facts are unavoidable:
1. Child poverty: In Berlin one in three children under 18 lives from social welfare.
Since the end of 2005 the number of children living in poverty has risen by 11,500. It is the smallest ones - babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers under the age of eight - who are most affected by this development. Child poverty in Germany is rising disproportionately compared with the average rate of poverty amongst Germany's population as a whole.
2. Climate change: Since industrialisation began, the global mean temperature has risen by around 0.6ºC. In global terms, the ten warmest years on record have all been post-1991. The large majority of scientists agree that this climate change is caused by burning coal, oil and gas and the resulting release of large quantities of greenhouse gases.
